Patara
In the Byzantine period Patara, well known as the birthplace of St Nicholas, was an important port city of the Lycian Union. Of its former glory, only Hadrian’s Gate and the amphitheatre have survived to the present day. In addition to its cultural heritage, Patara has a beach of dreamlike beauty with a high slope. This natural area is under protection because of the Caretta Caretta turtles which are in danger of extinction. In order to protect endangered nature we ask you to behave carefully on the beach which is between 3 and 4 km in length. While enjoying a wonderful holiday free of luxury, please help to protect this secret paradise.
